Saga Dawa Festival and Kailash Tour

Tibet is the land of various kinds of colorful festival based on Buddhist Religion. One of the greatest festivals after Lhosar is Saga Dawa Festival which falls on the full moon day of the fourth Tibetan month. Main day of Saga Dawa festival of 2020 is on June 5.   The month long festival attracts large numbers of pilgrims and visitor every year from mid- May to mid-June.

This festival is celebrated to mark Birth, Enlightenment (Nirvana), and Death (Parinirvana ) of Gautam Buddha. Tibetan people regard this festival the holiest festival of the all and celebrate with cheerfully. Saga Dawa festival takes place at Taeboche valley of Kailash region around periphery of Mt. Kailash Kora route.

Every year Buddhist devotees gather here and offer puja and enjoy the festival in a jubilant way. The main ritual that draw sizeable pilgrims and visitor is of erecting 25m long flagpole and festooned with colorful praying flags. People take down flagpole and remove old praying flags and tie new one. The important to erect flagpole perfectly, otherwise Tibet may bear misfortune and will be in peril throughout the year. When flagpole is set, Buddhist monks start playing musical instruments and monks chants prayers and sutras. It is believed that making 13 circuits around flagpole is equal to 1 Kailash Kora. People, who don’t have enough time for Kailash Kora, spend few hours here and make circuit around flagpole.

Day 01: 26 May 2020:- Arrival in Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel (1350m)

Upon arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by representative of Real Adventure Nepal Travels and Tour, who transfer you to one of the famous hotels around tourist hub, Thamel. After check in to hotel, you freshen up and have some rest. In evening you will be met by a professional tour guide who briefs about the trip and suggest necessary preparation. Day 02: 27 May 2020: Day in Kathmandu. Visa and trip preparation. Overnight at Hotel

Today we spare half a day for immigration process of issuing visa and other necessary permits. After lunch, we will have sightseeing tour to major religious sites like, Bouddhanath, Swayambhunath and Pashupatinath and historical places like Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 03: 28 May 2020: Drive to Syabrubesi and overnight at Local tea house (117km - 7 Hours, 2250m)

After early morning breakfast, we drive to Syabrubesi by tourist bus via Nuwakot Trisuli highway. For the first two hours we drive via Prithivi highway until we reach to Galchhi, and then, turn right turn and follow the highway Trisuli-Rasuwa road alongside of Trisuli river. After lunch we drive uphill via Pasang Lhamu highway passing by the forest of pine trees and rhododendron flower, until we reach to Dhunche. Leaving Dhunche behind, we again drive into lush forest until we reach Syabrubesi. Overnight in tea house.

Day 04: 29 May 2020: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kerung (40 Km - 2 Hours, 2900m) Overnight at Guest House

Today get up early morning and enjoy the sunrise above the snowcapped mountain and enjoy delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we drive take 2 hour drive alongside of Trisuli River passing a Timure Bazar and Piding village until we reach to Kerung. Upon reaching Kerung, we spend half day in immigration office to submit necessary documents for permission. Overnight in Guest House.

Day 05: 30 May 2020: Drive to Saga (390km - 6/7 hrs, 4500m) Overnight at guest house.

Today after some immigration check in border we drive to Saga following the highway recently built for the purpose of trade link between Nepal and China. We mostly follow the highway alongside of Trisuli River. We head northwest passing via beautiful Tibetan villages, pasturing meadows and lush forest until we reach to green valley. After lunch we enter into narrow gorges and drive via steep cliff. On the late day we drive on naturally rugged area and pass the Tibetan villages like Womancun, Gyirong port, and Mala. We also two high pass of Thong La and La Lung. Today we can see queue of containers heading to Nepal and cross various ports. In the late afternoon we drive via desert area with stunning view of Paiku Co Lake and Cuochulong Lake. After crossing bridge over Yarlung Zangdo River we reach to beautiful city Saga. In evening we visit the monastery and Mani walls. Overnight in Guest House.

Day 06: 31 May 2019: Acclimatization Day in Saga

One day acclimatization is suggested to adapt in higher elevation and better prepare for Kailash Kora. We not only stay in guest house but go down to Brahmaputra River and take holy bath. We can roam around market with our tour guide and visit monasteries and Mani walls. We can have side trip to nearby hills on the outskirt of Saga. Overnight in guest house.

Day 07: 01 June 2020: Drive to Manasarovar (277 km - 6/7 Hrs, 4590m. Overnight at Guest house

After breakfast we drive to Mansarovar via G219 National Road. The northwest road passes by Jaipucun and cross a bridge over a small stream. We continue driving in rugged land until we reach to Sagacun. After Sagacun we drive downhill alongside of widening river, cross landslide of Dajiling. As we cross the Mayomla Pass (5112m), we can enjoy the spectacular vista of Mt. Naimonanyi (7694m), the grassland spotted with yaks and Himalayan goats and enchanting view of Saga valley between Gandise Range and Himalaya Range. In late afternoon we enjoy breathtaking view of Mt. Kailash, Mansarovar Lake, and Rakshas Lake. After 7-8 hour drive we finally reach to Mansarovar. Upon reaching to Mansarovar Lake, we enjoy turquoise lake, surrounded by green meadows with grazing yaks and horses, and crowd of pilgrimages taking bath in holy lake with puja.

Day 08: 02 June 2020: Exploration of Lake Manasarovar and drive to Darchen (40km - 1Hrs, 4575m). Overnight at Hotel

Today we get up early morning, bathe in Mansarovar Lake and perform puja according to our religious belief. We meditate, pray and accept the blessing from divine power. This morning we can explore the rituals performs by Hindus, Buddhists, Jians and Bons people around the holy Lake Mansarovar. After religious morning in Mansarovar, we take an hour drive to Darchen. Darchen is known as the Base Camp of Mt. Kailash Kora

Day 09: 03 June 2020: Kailash 1st Day Kora Dirapuk. (47 km Driving, 14 km walking /6 Hours – 5000m) Overnight at Mud House

After breakfast we take short drive west until we reach to Yamadwar. Yamadwar is known as the gateway to hell. Then we follow steep trail alongside of river and make spherical circle on the foothill of Mt. Kailash until we reach to Sarshung. The person cannot walk, can hire pony yaks and horses with helper. 13km strenuous but scenic trek takes us to Dirapuk village situated on the bank of river. Overnight in Mud House.

Day 10: 04 June 2020: Kailash Kora 2nd Day Juthulpuk 4750m (19km – 8/9 Hours) Overnight Mud house.

After breakfast we visit Dirapuk Monastery and walk over Dromala Pass (5630m), the highest pass of Kora. Dromala Pass is decorated with colorful praying flags and stands as a vantage point for Gaurikunda Lake and close up view of Mt. Kailash. Then we walk down to Gaurikunda, a holy lake where consort of Lord Shiva takes bath. Then following the ascent via Kadoe Lake we reach to Juthulpuk where we visit mystic cave and monastery. Overnight in Mud House.

Day 11: 05 June 2020: Trek to Chongdo and Drive to Darboche valley. Exploration of Saga Dawa festival. Overnight at guest house in Darchen

After breakfast, walk for a while to complete the Kora until we reach to Chongda and take drive to holy mountain Darchen to participate in Sagsa Dawa festival. When we reach there, the festival is already started and people are gathered around and offering flowers and flyers of mantra. Some people are erecting flagpole and some are dancing in spiritual songs and hymns. We can buy handmade Tibetan souvenir items and enjoy typical Tibetan food and drinks. For the whole day we will enjoy festive mood by taking photos and exchanging greeting with local people, pilgrims and visitor from all around the world. .Overnight in guesthouse.

Day 12: 06 June 2020: Drive back to Saga (7 hours). Overnight at guest house.

Today we will get up early to observe the finishing rituals of Saga Dawa festival and drive back to Saga. Via National Highway G129 we pass by beautiful lakes, waterfalls and green meadows and cross beautiful rivers. After 7 hour spectacular drive we will reach to vibrant Saga. Overnight in guesthouse.

Day 13: 07 June 2020: Drive to Kerung (5/6 hours) and Overnight at Guest House

After having breakfast, we cross Brahmaputra River and follow the highway towards Cuochulong Lake and Paiku Co Lake from where the road goes downhill until we reach to Gyirong port. After Gyirong Port we can see green vegetation, waterfalls, and farming terrace alongside of Trisuli River. After 6-7 hour drive we reach to the border of Nepal, Kerung. Overnight in guesthouse.

Day 14: 08 June 2020: Drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel.

Today we start driving early morning and have breakfast in Timure and Lunch in Syabrubesi. After having breakfast we drive downhill to Dhunche and continue driving for whole day until we reach to Kathmandu. After 10 days long trip today we enjoy delicious dinner in Hotel and have good rest overnight. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 15: Final Departure.
